St. James Concert Series

SIERRA MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP

It is the goal of the St. James Concert Series to encourage and enable students of classical music to further their education and develop their skills. To that end, the Sierra Music Scholarship offers financial aid to students of classical music who are involved in private study. Recipients are from Calavaras and Tuolumne Counties.

The Scholarship fund, managed by the Sonora Area Foundation, was established in 1998 and to date has awarded $9000 to 41 students in the Tuolumne/Calavaras area. Recipients include instrumental and vocal students studying with local teachers.

Scholarships are awarded in two age categories: 10 to 14, and 15 to 20.
This year the auditions had to be rescheduled due to bad weather and no one from the older group was able to perform at the new timne and date. Therefore, we awarded three scholarships in the younger catagory.

Scholarship recipients will perform as part of the March 4, 2012 concert featured on the St. James Concert Series.

Tax deductible donations may be made to Sonora Area Foundation and marked for Sierra Scholarship Fund.
