Linda Carter, soprano, has lived in Sonora for 23 years. A native of Philadelphia, she received her Bachelor of Music degree from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, N.J. She made her professional debut in Spoleto, Italy as Chloe in Tchaikovsky's opera The Queen o Spadesf. While living in the East she was an active recitalist in art and sacred song, opera, and as an oratorio soloist in works including the Poulenc Gloria, Handel's Messiah, and numerous Bach cantatas.
Since living in California, Linda has been a featured soloist with the Modesto Symphony in the Mozart Requiem and Magic Flute, and Mendelssohn's Elijah and MidSummer's Night Dream. Performances with the Modesto Junior College Orchestra and Masterworks Chorus include Schubert's Mass in A Flat, Bach's Magnificat, Vivaldi's Gloria, Haydn's Creation, and Poulenc's Gloria. She has performed opera roles and scenes with the MJC Opera Theatre, The Modesto Performing Arts Association and The Sonora Opera Guild. With the Columbia College Community Chorus she has been soprano soloist in Schubert's Mass in G, Mozart's Mass in F, the Haydn Lord Nelson Mass and Vivaldi's Chamber Mass.
Linda has given numerous solo and duet recitals with her husband, tenor John Carter. She has performed with the Sonora Bach Festival, the St. James Concert Series, and the Mother Lode Friends of Music. Her awards include the Thompson Scholar Award for vocal and academic excellence at Westminster, second place in the Northern California V.O.C.E. competition and third place in the Metropolitan Opera District Auditions. In 2005 she was accepted to participate in Song Fest at Pepperdine University.
